“I was brought to DSPCA from the pound with a condition that required surgery, but now I am perfectly healed and full of tail-wagging energy. The staff here takes great care of me, but I can’t help but miss my family. They had to leave me behind when they moved to a smaller home with no room for me to run around, it was a ruff decision for them. They even wrote this letter to ensure that I would end up in the best hands:
‘Nala is five years old. She is just like a big baby, very friendly. Loves being around kids and he is very gentle with kids. She is house-trained and loves going on walks, she is great with other dogs. She had a litter of pups. Loves drinking water from the tap in the backyard. She sits when you tell her, and stays when you tell her. When you tell her to speak she will bark. The best loving dog we had and sad to see her go but she needs a new home. I hope whoever gets her will love her as much as we do.’
I truly enjoy being here, all the humans are so kind to me. I absolutely love going on long walks around the back and playing with the volunteers, but deep down, I yearn to be a part of a loving family that I can call my own.”
Nala is among the many pets who were recently abandoned, as the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) received a record number of over 800 applications to surrender pets. Many of these surrenders are due to the recent ‘change in living circumstances’.
