Burlesque is like going from sublime to ridiculous and you sure as hell enjoy it!

“One day I was shopping with my friend, and we found this shop filled with these beautiful corsets and burlesque accessorises, and I was like, wow! This is really cool! There was a lady in her 50’s there that was all dressed up and had this wonderful diamond covered eye patch on. I was blown away by her. I began talking to her and she was explaining that she started burlesque because she had to wear this eye patch. She was saying it’s not only about the sexy lingerie and pretty clothes, that it’s much more than that. It’s a lifestyle. From that day on something changed in me and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I used to wonder when I was doing makeup if I should use red lipstick, or would it be too much? But in burlesque, there’s never too much! You end up going out with gloves covered in colourful feathers on a Wednesday afternoon, and it’s like going from sublime to ridiculous and you sure as hell enjoy it!”

“I’m a baker; I love baking cookies and cakes. I went through lots of phases, and I changed direction a good few times, but all I knew was that I wanted to do something where I can bake cakes and practice burlesque. Well, pair those two together! You can’t give up on your dreams right? I thought, I’m going to be a full-time burlesque artist on the weekdays, and on the weekends I’m going to make youtube videos of me baking cakes and cookies. But this isn’t really how life works. Then I thought, okay I’ll be a chef! But a chef works 60-70 hours a week, I’d have no time to even look at my dresses. So guess what I did? I just combined the two brilliant things and thought let’s see where it takes me. Burlesque clothing is very expensive and high end, they’re all handmade, just like my cakes. The burlesque theme gave a sense of quality for my art. I don’t use cheap ingredients, and I don’t like to be plain. So I create burlesque style, off-the-wall cakes. Everything I make has to have a character to it. And this is the story of how I ended up being a burlesque baker who works 70 hours a week but does everything in my favourite style!”
